Incident in Front of Paris Police Headquarters: Man Tries to Seize Officer’s Weapon, Three Injured Officers
On Tuesday, February 4, shortly before 1 p.m., a man attacked three police officers on duty in front of the Paris police headquarters on Rue de la Cité. The individual, who ran towards them, attempted to seize one of the officers’ firearms. As the officers tried to restrain him, he punched one of them in the face and continued his attempt to grab a weapon even while on the ground.
Three Injured Officers, Suspect Taken into Custody
During the altercation, one officer sustained a hand injury, while another suffered a fractured finger. Both were taken for medical treatment, as reported by H24 MEDIA. The attacker, who was carrying a piece of broken mirror, was subdued and taken into custody at the central Paris police station, where he is expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Claiming to be of Sudanese nationality, his identity is currently being verified. An investigation has been assigned to the judicial police, while the anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office is assessing the circumstances of the attack. Paris Police Chief Laurent Nuñez visited the scene to offer support to the injured officers.
