Car-ramming attack in Munich: mother and 2-year-old daughter succumb to their injuries

The toll from the car-ramming attack in Munich, which occurred on Thursday, February 13, 2025, has tragically increased. A 37-year-old mother and her 2-year-old daughter, who were among the 39 injured during the incident that took place in the street amidst a Verdi union demonstration, passed away on Saturday, February 15, local authorities confirmed.

The attack, carried out by a 24-year-old man, Farhad N. (identified by the Bild newspaper as Farhad Noori), occurred while a crowd was participating in the demonstration in the German city. The suspected perpetrator was arrested and quickly admitted to deliberately hitting the demonstrators. He claimed his actions were motivated by religious reasons, stating that he had radicalized independently.

The attack was claimed by the suspect, who shouted “Allah Akbar” (God is Great) during his arrest, according to law enforcement. However, he was not affiliated with any recognized Islamist organization. Although his asylum request in Germany had been rejected, he had been living in the country under a “tolerated” status, claiming to work as a security guard.

This attack comes just ten days before the German federal elections, which are dominated by concerns over immigration and security, following several violent incidents committed by foreigners. In this context, the conservative opposition and the far-right have gained significant ground in the polls ahead of the February 23 election.

In response to the attack, many Munich residents paid tribute to the victims by laying flowers at the site of the tragedy on February 15.
