Liverpool: Car Rams into Victory Parade Crowd, 47 Injured Including Four Children

On Monday, May 26, celebrations in Liverpool turned to tragedy. As hundreds of thousands of supporters gathered in the streets to celebrate Liverpool FC’s Premier League title, a car plowed into the crowd around 7 p.m. (local time) on Water Street, one of the main roads along the parade route.

The toll is heavy: 47 people were injured, according to emergency services. Of those, 27 were hospitalized, including two in serious condition—one of them a child. The remaining 20 victims were treated at the scene for less severe injuries. As of now, no fatalities have been reported.

Police Rule Out Terrorism, Describe “Isolated Incident”

The alleged driver, a 53-year-old British man from the Liverpool area, was quickly arrested and taken into custody. According to local police, the incident is being treated as isolated and not related to terrorism. Authorities urged the public not to speculate or spread misinformation on social media.

Footage circulating online shows a dark-colored car speeding into a dense crowd, sending people flying. Several bystanders can be seen attempting to stop the vehicle.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded on social media, saying: “The scenes in Liverpool are horrific. My thoughts are with all those injured or affected.” Liverpool FC also issued a statement, expressing solidarity with the victims and confirming ongoing contact with local authorities.

Despite heavy rain, up to a million people had gathered to celebrate along the 16-kilometer parade route, marking Liverpool FC’s long-awaited Premier League triumph. The vehicle struck as the parade was nearing its conclusion.
