School Supervisor Fatally Stabbed in Nogent: 14-Year-Old Suspect Admits Premeditation
A shocking act of violence has shaken the educational community at Françoise-Dolto Middle School in Nogent, Haute-Marne. On Tuesday, June 10, a 31-year-old female school supervisor was fatally stabbed by a 14-year-old student during a bag check at the school entrance. The victim, struck seven times, died on site shortly after 10:10 a.m.
A Premeditated Act, Without Remorse
According to Chaumont’s public prosecutor, Denis Devallois, who spoke at a press conference on Wednesday, June 11, the student did not specifically target the victim but had planned to attack “any supervisor” after being reprimanded the previous Friday for kissing his girlfriend at school. Although the woman who scolded him was not the victim, the teenager admitted to harboring violent intentions since Saturday, June 7.
During police custody, the suspect showed “no remorse or compassion.” “He is emotionally detached both from the gravity of the act and its consequences,” said the prosecutor, who described the boy as having a “fascination with death and violence.” The suspect reportedly said he wanted “to cause as much harm as possible.”
A Brutal Attack with a Kitchen Knife
The teen used a 34 cm kitchen knife with a 20 cm blade, which he had hidden in his bag. He stabbed the supervisor shortly after 8:15 a.m. A gendarme present for the bag check managed to subdue the assailant but was injured in the hand, receiving a 10-day medical leave.
An autopsy conducted on Wednesday revealed seven stab wounds, mostly on the left side of the body, along with defensive injuries on the hands and additional wounds to the head, shoulder, and back. One fatal wound was identified in the victim’s back.
A Student Without a Known Psychiatric History
Born in August 2010, the suspect was a ninth-grade student described as sociable and relatively high-achieving. He lived in a well-integrated, law-abiding family and had no known psychiatric history. However, he had previously been temporarily suspended twice earlier in the school year for acts of violence against fellow students.
No signs of mental illness have been observed during his custody, which has been extended for another 24 hours.
National Mourning and Political Reactions
The murder has sparked national outrage. A minute of silence was observed in the National Assembly and the Senate. Education Minister Élisabeth Borne called the event a “horrific tragedy” in an interview with France Inter and announced that a minute of silence would be held in all French schools on Thursday at noon.
In response, the government has pledged to strengthen school safety. A decree is being finalized to ban the sale of knives to minors and is expected to be adopted within the next 15 days. The current law already prohibits the sale of certain category D weapons, such as daggers, to individuals under 18.
