A shooting in the centre of Saumur (Maine-et-Loire) at around 6pm on Monday 3 June left one man dead and another injured, according to a report in Le Courrier de l’Ouest, confirmed by H24 MEDIA

The 21-year-old victim died of his injuries, while a 20-year-old man sustained a hand injury. The Saumur public prosecutor’s office, represented by prosecutor Alexandra Verron, has opened an investigation into the murder and attempted murder, indicating that the motive may have been a ‘debt of money’.

The shooting took place on rue du Général de Gaulle, in the vicinity of the kebab restaurant ‘Le Royal Saumur’. The suspects fled by car. A police source told H24 MEDIA of a possible financial dispute linked to drug trafficking, but this information has yet to be confirmed.

The suspects used a rented vehicle to escape. The owner of the vehicle, who was initially held in police custody, was released after his involvement in the incident was ruled out. The investigation is now being led by the Organised and Specialist Crime Division. The injured man, who is due to undergo surgery, has not yet been interviewed by investigators.
