At this stage, H24 NEWS police source favours the hypothesis of a personal dispute rather than any other motive

On Monday 17 June, five people were injured in a knife attack in Metz (Moselle), two of them seriously, according to the public prosecutor, Yves Badorc. The incident took place this morning outside a mini-market in the Borny district in the east of the city. At this stage of the investigation, no arrests have been made and one of the alleged perpetrators is on the run.

The authorities have ruled out terrorism as a possible motive, confirming earlier reports. The public prosecutor stressed that “there is nothing to suggest” that a link with terrorism has been established in this case. However, he was unable to provide any further immediate details on the exact circumstances of the attack.

According to a police source contacted by H24 NEWS, the incident was linked to a case of racketeering within the Afghan community. The same source said that one of the injured was life-threatening, underlining the seriousness of the situation. Another police source, interviewed by H24 NEWS, said that the investigation was currently focusing on a settling of scores.
