Three people indicted in the investigation into the kidnapping of little Santiago: one minor and two adults involved

Three people suspected of helping the parents of Santiago, a 20-day-old premature infant, to kidnap their child, were indicted on Friday October 25. A woman, a man and a minor were arrested as part of the investigation into Santiago’s disappearance.

Of the five arrested on October 22, three have been placed under judicial supervision or in pre-trial detention. The woman is being prosecuted for “failure to report a crime” and remains under strict judicial supervision. As for the minor and the man, they have been charged with “kidnapping and sequestration of a minor under the age of 15 in an organized gang”, as well as “complicity in ill-treatment and deprivation”. The minor has been remanded in custody, while the adult man is incarcerated pending a detention hearing, scheduled for Monday October 28.

Recognitions and an international arrest warrant issued for the parents

The public prosecutor’s office revealed that two of the people in custody, including the minor, admitted to helping the parents flee to Belgium with the infant. The other two individuals initially arrested were released.

The Bobigny public prosecutor pointed out that Santiago’s fragile state of health required constant care, and urged the parents to take their baby “immediately to the nearest hospital”.

To ensure the infant’s safe return, European arrest warrants have been issued, with the support of Interpol to widen the search.
