Santiago’s Abduction: Father to Be Presented to the Investigating Judge on Friday

The father of Santiago, who had kidnapped his premature baby from a maternity hospital in Seine-Saint-Denis, arrived in France on Thursday, December 5, and was handed over to judicial authorities. He is scheduled to be presented to the investigating judge at the Bobigny judicial court on Friday, December 6, for indictment.

Recap of the Events

On October 25, Santiago, a 17-day-old preterm infant, was abducted by his parents, aged 23 and 25, from the neonatology unit of a hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois. After the abduction, the parents fled to Belgium and then to the Netherlands, where the father was arrested in a hotel in Amsterdam. The baby, found safe and sound, was secured after a multi-day police manhunt. Santiago was repatriated to France on October 31 by ambulance.

Mother Released Under Judicial Supervision

Santiago’s mother, handed over to French authorities on November 7, was charged in Bobigny. She was released under judicial supervision with strict conditions: prohibition on leaving French territory, payment of bail, regular reporting to the police station, and requirement to undergo medical care.
