Tragedy in Paris: A teenager stabbed to death near Rodin high school in the 13th arrondissement

On December 17, 2024, a 15-year-old boy was fatally stabbed near Rodin High School in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, around 8 a.m. The attack occurred during a fight involving a group of about ten young people, the perpetrators of which are still at large. The victim, who was not a student at the school, was found with head injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency services, his death was confirmed at 9:15 a.m.

A series of fights between young people in the area

This act of violence is part of a broader pattern of ongoing tensions between young people in the neighborhood, with several confrontations reported since May 2024. The Paris prosecutor has launched a murder investigation, and the territorial police are leading the inquiry. According to the prosecutor’s office, this murder is part of a larger phenomenon of recurring youth fights in the area. The police prefecture has intensified security around the high school.

Support services set up for students

The headmaster of Rodin High School informed parents that, although classes proceeded as usual, additional security measures were taken, and a filtering system was implemented during the victim’s evacuation. The Mayor of the 13th Arrondissement, Jérôme Coumet, expressed his shock and called the situation tragic and unexpected. He announced the establishment of a psychological support service for the students of the high school.

Voices raised against violence near schools

Political leaders and officials strongly condemned the tragedy. Deputy Rodrigo Arenas expressed his sorrow and solidarity with the victim’s family, while Emmanuel Grégoire, a former first deputy mayor of Paris and current MP, condemned the rise in violence around schools and stated that such situations were “unacceptable.”

This tragic incident raises important questions about security in schools and the measures needed to address the increasing violence among young people.
