On January 10, 2025, Yaël Braun-Pivet, the President of the National Assembly, revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, during a routine screening. She shared that the diagnosis was a “thunderclap” in her life, something she was unprepared for. Thanks to early detection, she was able to undergo surgery, radiotherapy, and follow-up treatment, and she is now “cured”

In an interview with the media outlet Mesdames, the Renaissance MP emphasized the crucial importance of regular screening, especially for women aged 50 to 74. She pointed out that cancers such as breast, colon, or cervical cancer, when detected early, can be cured in nine out of ten cases. Yaël Braun-Pivet reminded her audience that 80% of breast cancers develop after the age of 50, and that mammography screening is fully covered by health insurance. “Don’t wait any longer to get screened,” she urged, encouraging women to take this step seriously.

Unwavering Support and Recovery

Today, Yaël Braun-Pivet is doing well and is undergoing hormone therapy, a treatment that aims to block the effects of female hormones on cancer cells. She expressed gratitude for her medical team’s exceptional support throughout her journey.

This revelation comes a few months after she assumed her role as President of the National Assembly, a position she has held since July 2022. In the interview, she also shared that her cancer had been discovered after finally scheduling a mammogram in 2022, having delayed this step for some time. “If you’re making a good resolution this year, I encourage you not to wait and get screened,” she added, emphasizing that screening saves lives.

A Message of Hope and Prevention

At 54 years old, Yaël Braun-Pivet has become an example of resilience and prevention, urging all women not to neglect their health and to undergo screening as soon as possible. Breast cancer, which affects one in eight women in France, remains an ongoing battle, and the President of the National Assembly is now serving as a spokesperson for this vital cause for women’s health.
