Après les lampions, Lyon se réveille sous la neige

While tradition dictates that the city of Lyon lights up with its lanterns every December 8th in tribute to the Virgin Mary, who is believed to have saved Lyon from the plague, the gentle white cloak of winter brings calm and serenity.

From December 5th to 8th, the city of Lyon continues this tradition, transforming from a religious celebration to a popular festival that, in 2022, attracted around 2 million people, including journalists from all over the world, as the event continues to grow each year.

From the Parc de la Tête d’Or to Place Saint-Jean, it’s a true initiatory journey where creativity is locally and internationally showcased. Both intimate and grandiose, the works presented are sources of inspiration, emotion, and sometimes even laughter. These internationally recognized artists offer us a sensitive view during a stroll at the heart of a participatory and inclusive celebration.

So, has the city of Lyon become a specialist in light, which is an essential part of nightlife? Especially when it offers the chance to discover or rediscover its heritage while promoting safety and energy efficiency. This is also the challenge of the city: to add more light points while reducing its energy consumption by a third.

By creating a true urban nocturnal landscape, Lyon illuminates the night with a breath of generosity and creativity. And while winter has now taken over, it is surely to add even more brilliance to this city of lights.
