Drug Trafficker Mohamed Amra Returns to France Under Tight Security

Arrested in Romania, French drug trafficker Mohamed Amra, 30, landed in Vélizy-Villacoublay (Yvelines) on Tuesday, February 25, in the late afternoon, escorted by the GIGN. He was transferred to the Paris courthouse in a heavily secured convoy and is set to appear before judges from the National Jurisdiction for Combating Organized Crime (Junalco) for indictment on multiple serious charges: organized gang murder and attempted murder, violent escape, organized gang theft and concealment, and criminal conspiracy.

Amra, known as “La Mouche,” escaped on May 14, 2024, during a prison transfer, after a dramatic attack at the Incarville tollbooth (Eure) that killed two prison officers and injured three others. After nine months on the run, he was arrested in Romania, where he allegedly planned to undergo plastic surgery before fleeing to Colombia. Despite appealing his extradition, the Romanian justice system quickly approved his return to France.

An exceptional security deployment was put in place in Paris for his arrival. “He will obviously be placed in total isolation,” said Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin, requesting his placement in a high-security prison. A judge of liberties and detention will decide his place of incarceration after his appearance before Junalco.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues, with 24 people currently in custody for their suspected involvement in organizing his escape.
