Plane Crash in Toronto: 18 Injured, Including a Child in Critical Condition

A Delta Airlines flight operating between Minneapolis and Toronto was involved in an accident upon landing on Monday, February 17. The aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ900 operated by Endeavor Air, came to a stop overturned on the snow-covered tarmac.

On board were 80 people—76 passengers and 4 crew members—all of whom were evacuated. The crash resulted in 18 injuries, including a child in critical condition who was transported to the hospital. Two other passengers, a man in his sixties and a woman in her forties, also sustained serious injuries. Twelve others suffered minor to moderate injuries and were taken to regional hospitals.

Emergency responders were quickly deployed, including three helicopters and two intensive care ambulances. Toronto Pearson International Airport temporarily closed its runways to facilitate rescue operations.

The accident occurred as eastern Canada faced a severe snowstorm, with icy winds and extreme weather conditions. The day before, Toronto airport reported 53.6 cm (21 inches) of snowfall in just one week—more than the total accumulation for the previous three months combined.

Canadian authorities and Delta Airlines are closely monitoring the situation. Transport Minister Anita Anand stated on X that she is following the incident carefully, while Air Canada has advised travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
