Casa France on the Brink: Liquidation Looms, Nearly 700 Jobs at Risk

The home furnishing retailer Casa France, which operates 143 stores across the country and employs around 700 people, announced on June 11 that it is heading toward liquidation following a scheduled hearing at the Bobigny commercial court. In a statement, the company warned that “the takeover bids” could be deemed “inadmissible,” severely jeopardizing any continuation of its operations. A final decision is expected on June 27.

A Market Shaken by the Real Estate Crisis and Fierce Competition

Casa France has been in dire straits since the spring: placed under court protection in April, the chain has struggled to survive following the collapse of its Belgian subsidiary, which had handled logistics as well as IT and financial services. In recent weeks, the company has launched large-scale clearance sales across its stores in a bid to offload stock.

Rescue Strategy and Structural Challenges

Confronted by a sluggish property market, the meteoric rise of e-commerce, and fierce competition from giants like Ikea, Casa France had rolled out an ambitious recovery plan in early 2024. This strategy aimed to close or sell more than 10% of its stores across Europe, with a view to returning to profitability by 2026.

Final Verdict Expected at Month’s End

With the Bobigny court hearing now approaching, Casa France enters a decisive phase: full liquidation is now a real possibility, threatening not only its employees but also outsourced support functions in France. The fate of its 143 stores will be determined at the June 27 hearing.
