Weather Outlook: Grey Skies to Start, Summer Heat Returns by Week’s End
The final week of May promises a mix of conditions across France. While the early part of the week remains under cloudy skies with scattered showers and cooler temperatures, sunshine and summer-like warmth are expected to make a strong comeback starting Thursday.
Monday: Cloudy Skies Dominate
On Monday, May 26, much of the country remains under overcast skies. Scattered showers are expected, particularly in Normandy and Finistère. Some brief sunny spells may appear along the French Riviera, in Corsica, and the Grand Est. Temperatures range from 14°C to 22°C.
In the afternoon, grey skies persist across the northern half of the country, with temperatures in Paris reaching no more than 18°C. Conditions are milder in the south, where cities like Perpignan, Marseille, and Montpellier may see highs up to 28°C despite lingering cloud cover.
Tuesday: Few Changes, Some Sunny Breaks
Little improvement is expected on Tuesday. The north will continue to see cloudy skies, with showers likely in Hauts-de-France, Normandy, and Brittany. The south avoids rain, though skies remain hazy.
By afternoon, the sun may break through in places. Highs of 21°C are expected in Nantes and Alençon, 24°C in Toulouse, and up to 27°C in Marseille.
Wednesday: Mixed Conditions Persist
Wednesday begins with overcast conditions nationwide, though some southern regions may see a few breaks in the clouds. Rain is forecast near the English Channel and in eastern regions.
However, the Azores High begins to exert its influence in the south, bringing warmer and sunnier weather than the day before. Temperatures may reach 30°C in Perpignan and 28°C in Montpellier.
Thursday: Sunshine Makes a Comeback
On Thursday, clearer skies begin to spread across the country. While cloud cover and a chance of showers linger in the north and northeast, the rest of France enjoys dry, sunny conditions.
Temperatures climb steadily, with highs ranging from 19°C to 30°C. The heat peaks in the south: 33°C expected in both Montpellier and Perpignan.
Friday: Summer Heat Takes Hold
By Friday, summer temperatures take hold across most of France. A brief spell of rain may affect the morning in Hauts-de-France and the Grand Est, but sunshine dominates in the afternoon.
Météo-France forecasts highs of 29°C in Bourges, 27°C in Nantes, 28°C in both Marseille and Biarritz, and up to 32°C in Toulouse. Summer seems to be arriving early this year.
