Donald Trump Calls for Negotiations for a Ceasefire in Ukraine

“Too many lives have been lost in vain.” With these words, the U.S. president-elect, Donald Trump, expressed his stance on the conflict in Ukraine in a message posted on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, December 8.

Donald Trump made an urgent call for an “immediate ceasefire” and the start of negotiations to end the war. “Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine want to reach an agreement and end this madness,” he stated, a day after a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky and Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace.

Too Many Broken Lives, Alarming Figures

In his message, the president-elect emphasized the urgency of a resolution by referencing the significant human losses. According to him, Ukraine has lost “400,000 soldiers” and “far more civilians,” while Russia has suffered “600,000 soldiers wounded or killed.”

“A war that should never have started,” he lamented. Donald Trump also warned of the risks of potential escalation, stating: “If this continues, it could turn into something much worse.”

A Call for Global Action

Expressing optimism for international mediation, Donald Trump said: “I know Vladimir [Putin] well. It’s time to act. China can play a role. The world is waiting!”

His victory in the 2024 presidential election, however, has raised concerns about the future of U.S. support for Ukraine. In recent months, he has criticized the billions of dollars allocated by the Biden administration to assist Kyiv, casting doubt on his future policy toward the conflict.
