Tragedy in the Ardèche: a woman loses her life after falling into a hole caused by flooding

On Sunday, a 58-year-old woman living in Burzet tragically died when she fell into a hole dug on the departmental road 215 following the week’s heavy rains. The information was confirmed by the Ardèche Prefecture, following a report in the newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré.

The victim approached a safety zone set up around the depression, which barred access to pedestrians and vehicles, when the accident occurred. According to local sources, the hole was in direct connection with the river La Bourges, resulting in a fall of 400 meters.

Emergency services, alerted by witnesses to the scene who tried to assist the 50-year-old, arrived as she was in cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite their efforts, the victim could not be resuscitated.

Following the incident, the gendarmes extended the security perimeter around the accident site. The prefecture has also issued a call for vigilance, warning that the risk of landslides and high water levels continue to pose a danger to the population.
