What’s Changing in June: Payslips, Gas Prices, Jobseekers, Public Transport Fines… Here’s What to Know
Starting this June 1, a range of new measures come into effect, affecting households, jobseekers, consumers, and public services. From price adjustments to administrative updates and tech reforms, here’s a breakdown of the key changes to watch this month.
A New Line on Payslips
A new mention, the “net social amount,” will now appear on all payslips in France. This figure represents income after mandatory social contributions and serves as the new reference income for claiming social benefits such as the RSA (welfare support) or the working income bonus.
The government aims to reduce the number of eligible individuals who don’t claim assistance, by making the process clearer and more transparent.
Jobseekers: Targeted Controls at France Travail
France’s public employment agency, France Travail, is overhauling its monitoring process. Missing an appointment with an advisor will no longer lead to automatic sanctions. Instead, a broader assessment of the jobseeker’s efforts and situation will be conducted.
Meanwhile, controls will become more widespread across the country, with a goal of 1.5 million checks by 2027. Some assessments may now be conducted without calling in the jobseeker, based solely on the contents of their case file—an approach that has already cut processing times by 21% in pilot regions.
Gas Prices Drop Again
In a welcome development for many households, regulated gas prices are dropping by 5.3% this month, following a 6.4% decrease in May. For a household using 10,000 kWh per year, this represents a savings of around €140 between April and June.
Cigarette Prices Go Up for Some Brands
Smokers will face another price hike on select products. Some Marlboro and Philip Morris cigarettes will see an increase of €0.50 to €0.70 per pack, depending on the format. Not all brands are affected by this adjustment.
Public Transport in Paris: Fines Go Up
In an effort to combat fare evasion, the Paris region’s public transport operator RATP is raising its fine structure. The standard penalty for not holding a valid ticket rises from €50 to €70, and can go up to €180 for late payment. Failing to validate a pass on a bus or tram will now cost €15, up from €5.
New Energy Labeling for Smartphones and Tablets
From June 20, smartphones and tablets sold in the EU must display a new, more detailed energy label. Consumers will be able to see information about drop resistance, battery life, repairability, and protection against dust and water.
This initiative is designed to encourage more sustainable product design and informed consumer choices, while promoting durability and repairability.
TV Channel Numbers Are Being Reorganized
A new TNT (digital terrestrial TV) channel numbering system takes effect on June 6. The main 24/7 news channels will now be grouped together:
BFMTV moves to channel 13,
CNews to 14,
LCI to 15,
franceinfo to 16.
Other changes include France 4 replacing Canal+ at position 4, Gulli moving to channel 12, and the arrival of T18, a new station owned by CMI France, on channel 18. NOVO19, a new channel by Ouest-France, is set to launch on September 1, taking up channel 19.
In Summary
From lower energy bills and simplified payslips to tougher public transport fines and updated digital tools, June brings a wave of practical changes that could affect your daily life. Some aim for clarity, others for greater responsibility—together, they signal a continued shift toward a more transparent and user-focused public service landscape.
