Nogent (Haute-Marne): School Supervisor Seriously Injured in Knife Attack by Student, School Locked Down

A serious incident occurred Tuesday morning, June 10, near the Françoise-Dolto middle school in Nogent, Haute-Marne. A 31-year-old school supervisor was seriously injured with a knife by a student during a security check conducted in the presence of gendarmes. The attack happened just outside the school, shortly before classes began.

According to initial information provided to H24 NEWS and AFP by the prefecture, the alleged attacker, a teenager around 15 years old, was quickly subdued by law enforcement officers present on site, then arrested and placed in police custody at the Nogent gendarmerie.

Student Struck During Bag Check

The attack took place during a random bag inspection, a security measure authorized by the government since late March to reinforce safety around schools. The student reportedly pulled out a knife and violently injured the education assistant, though the motives behind the act remain unclear.

The victim, seriously wounded, was taken into emergency care and transported to a hospital. Her condition has not been specified. Psychological support has been offered to school staff and students.

School Locked Down, Investigation Underway

Following the attack, the entire school was locked down. All 324 students present were sheltered inside the building while authorities secured the area. The prefecture confirmed that “all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.”

An investigation has been launched to clarify the circumstances of the assault. The regional gendarmerie unit responsible for sensitive cases has been assigned to the case.

Increased Security Checks in Schools

Since late March, random checks at the entrances of middle and high schools have been stepped up following a joint directive from Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, relayed by education authorities. This measure is part of a broader plan to combat violence in schools, especially involving bladed weapons.

Recent attacks, some fatal, have prompted the government to heighten vigilance. These operations aim to address growing concerns among educational staff and parents.
