Hautes-Pyrénées: magnitude 4.1 earthquake recorded near Bagnères-de-Bigorre

The tremor was felt at around 11.30am on Tuesday, 9km south of Tarbes

In a press release, the prefecture reported that an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale occurred on Tuesday 21 May in the Bagnères-de-Bigorre region of the Hautes-Pyrénées. The tremor was felt at around 11.30 am, around 9 km south of Tarbes.

Following this event, the collège in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the lycée in Sarsan evacuated their pupils. No damage was reported to the buildings, enabling pupils to return to their classrooms.

In Luz-Saint-Sauveur, however, pupils at the collège were also evacuated, and a crack appeared in one of the administrative buildings. The prefecture has stated that the Hautes-Pyrénées departmental fire and rescue service is currently assessing the premises.
