Katy Perry returns from her first space flight with Blue Origin in Texas: “The most beautiful experience after being a mother”

Katy Perry Soars into Space with Blue Origin: A Symbolic and Historic Journey

On Monday, April 14, Katy Perry achieved a lifelong dream by taking part in a spaceflight aboard a Blue Origin rocket, the space venture founded by Jeff Bezos. Alongside five other women—including Bezos’ partner Lauren Sanchez and TV host Gayle King—the pop star participated in a landmark mission: the first all-female suborbital flight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo journey in 1963.

The fully automated New Shepard rocket launched at dawn from West Texas. During the brief ten-minute mission, the capsule crossed the Kármán line—considered the boundary of space at 100 kilometers above Earth. Once in zero gravity, the passengers were able to unbuckle and float freely for a few moments before safely descending back to Earth, aided by parachutes and a retro-thrust system.

For Katy Perry, this flight was more than a technical feat—it was a deeply personal message to her daughter, Daisy. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, the artist shared her goal of encouraging her child “to never put limits on her dreams,” even bringing a daisy flower onboard in tribute to her daughter’s name. “I can’t wait to see the light in her eyes when she tells her classmates, ‘My mom went to space,’” she said.

Aboard the capsule, the Teenage Dream singer performed What a Wonderful World—a poetic gesture during an otherworldly experience. “It was surreal, like letting go and embracing the unknown,” she reflected after landing. She also emphasized that the experience wasn’t just about her: “I give this journey a ten out of ten. But what matters most is making space for the next generation of women.”

This was Blue Origin’s eleventh human suborbital flight, part of its growing space tourism program. While the cost of these cosmic adventures remains undisclosed, their symbolic impact speaks volumes.
