The 24-year-old rapper Koba LaD from Essonne is currently going through a dark period in his career. Charged with ‘aggravated manslaughter and aggravated manslaughter’, he has been remanded in custody following a tragic accident in Créteil on Tuesday night. The Créteil public prosecutor’s office confirmed this information to H24 MEDIA.

A dramatic accident

Koba LaD was driving a luxury sports saloon while under the influence of drugs when he crashed into a HGV parked on the exit ramp of a service station on the A86 motorway. The impact claimed the life of his front passenger, born in 1994. Another passenger, born in 1999 and seated at the rear of the vehicle, was slightly injured. The HGV driver also suffered minor injuries.

A criminal record

This is not the first time that Koba LaD has come up against the law. In 2020, he was given a three-month suspended prison sentence, together with 140 hours of community service, following a car accident in Marseille. He fled the scene before turning himself in to the police three days later. At the time of his conviction, his driving licence was suspended for four months.

A brilliant musical career

Despite his legal troubles, Koba LaD has established himself on the French rap scene with undeniable force. With over three million followers on Instagram, he made his mark in 2018 with his debut album ‘VII’. Last week, he released the track ‘911’, in collaboration with French rap heavyweights Ninho and Niska. His latest album, ‘Frères ennemis’, a duet with Zola, another rapper from Essonne, has been hailed by the critics. According to many specialist media, this project is one of the best-selling rap duo albums ever.
