The Murder of Lilian Dejean: Suspect Extradited to France and Detained

On September 8, Lilian Dejean, a 49-year-old sanitation worker, was fatally shot in Grenoble while attempting to stop a driver responsible for a traffic accident. On Saturday 30 November, the main suspect, Abdoul Diallo, 25, was charged with murder and remanded in custody, according to the Grenoble public prosecutor, as reported in Le Dauphiné Libéré.

An International Manhunt

After 74 days on the run, Abdoul Diallo, who resides in the suburbs of Grenoble, was arrested in Portugal following a European arrest warrant. Extradited on November 28, he did not oppose his transfer to the French authorities. His arrest concludes a manhunt involving more than 40 investigators, who had found identification documents bearing his name in the abandoned vehicle used in the incident.

The Incident

Lilian Dejean, a father of two, was shot in the chest while trying to prevent the driver of a high-powered rental car, registered in Poland, from fleeing the scene. Gravely injured, he passed away shortly after being transported to the hospital.

A History of Crime

Abdoul Diallo, whose criminal record includes 19 prior convictions for offenses such as violence and drug trafficking, is suspected of being at the center of this tragic event that shook the Grenoble community.

A City Under Pressure

This tragedy occurs against the backdrop of escalating violence in Grenoble, where authorities have reported an ongoing “gang war” tied to drug trafficking. Lilian Dejean’s death has become a tragic symbol of the insecurity plaguing the region.
