Meurthe-et-Moselle: Gendarme Seriously Injured in Urban Rodeo Incident, Suspect Turns Himself In
A gendarme was seriously injured on Friday, May 16, after being deliberately struck by a motorcyclist during an urban rodeo in Neuves-Maisons, a town near Nancy in northeastern France. The incident occurred as a patrol attempted to stop the rider, who was speeding and performing dangerous stunts on public roads.
Deliberate Collision Followed by Escape
Around 9 p.m., after running a red light and performing wheelies, the motorcyclist initially evaded officers. Moments later, he reportedly returned to the scene. As one of the gendarmes approached and signaled him to stop, the suspect slowed down briefly—only to accelerate suddenly and slam into the officer, according to departmental commander Sébastien Brach, quoted by France 3.
The injured officer sustained serious leg fractures and underwent surgery overnight at Nancy hospital. His condition is stable, but his injuries remain significant.
An investigation has been opened for attempted murder and assigned to the Nancy criminal investigation unit. The following morning, a man claiming to be the rider turned himself in at the Nancy central police station. This was reported by ICI Sud Lorraine and confirmed by H24 NEWS. He is currently in custody.
