Mohamed Amra Interrogated Under High Security in Paris Over Deadly Prison Escape
Exceptional Security Measures
Drug trafficker Mohamed Amra, pursued for his bloody escape in May 2024, was extracted from his cell at Condé-sur-Sarthe prison (Orne) on Wednesday, June 11, to be questioned by investigative judges at the Paris judicial court. Under heavy security, he was flown by helicopter to the Villacoublay airbase (Yvelines), then transported by several armored vehicles and police motorcycles, escorted by the GIGN. Upon arrival at the court around 9:30 AM, he wore noise-canceling headphones and a blindfold.
Interrogation Marked by Silence
During an interrogation lasting nearly four and a half hours, Mohamed Amra limited himself to “simple statements” and refused to answer the magistrates’ questions regarding the investigation into “organized gang-related murders in repeat offenses” connected to his escape. His lawyer, Lucas Montagnier, explained that this decision was neither a strategy nor defiance towards the judiciary, but resulted from a concerning observation: the necessary conditions for the exercise of defense rights were not met.
Confidentiality Issues in Detention
Montagnier denounced a “lack of confidentiality” during their meetings in prison, where a guard is always present behind the door, able to overhear conversations and see documents covered by judicial secrecy on the lawyer’s computer. “Mr. Amra will answer the judges once confidentiality is fully guaranteed,” he stated.
A Complex Judicial Case
Mohamed Amra was arrested in Romania in February 2025 and then extradited to France. He is under formal investigation in a vast case involving “organized gang-related murders,” “attempted murders,” “organized escape,” “theft,” and “criminal association.” His May 2024 escape in Incarville (Eure), which cost the lives of two prison officers, prompted a significant tightening of security around his detention.
Return to Prison Under High Surveillance
After his hearing, Mohamed Amra left the court around 2 PM to return to Condé-sur-Sarthe prison under a secure convoy. The case involves around forty individuals and remains a central focus of judicial attention.
