Knife Attack in Mulhouse: One Dead and Two Injured, Attacker Arrested

On Saturday, February 22, in the late afternoon, a knife attack took place in Mulhouse, near a covered market. A 37-year-old man, listed in the terrorism prevention database, assaulted several people, killing one and injuring two others, one of them critically. The attacker, who shouted “Allah Akbar” during the assault, also attempted to attack municipal police officers, injuring one in the carotid artery and the other in the chest. The authorities quickly apprehended the suspect, who was placed in custody.

The prosecutor stated that the investigation, led by the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office, involves charges of “murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise” and “attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise.” The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, is expected to visit the site later in the evening to monitor the situation.
