Two weeks after the second round of legislative elections, the left-wing coalition has found its candidate for the post of Prime Minister. On Tuesday July 23, the New Popular Front nominated Lucie Castets as its joint candidate, confirming the information published by Politis and l’Humanité and reported by H24 MEDIA

Negotiations between the four left-wing parties lasted a fortnight and intensified this morning to reach an agreement. Interviewed by AFP, Lucie Castets expressed her gratitude and determination, saying she accepted the appointment “in all humility but with great conviction”. She said she was “credible and serious” about becoming Prime Minister, and promised to fight for “the repeal of the pension reform” if appointed.

Marine Tondelier, Ecologist National Secretary, announced on X that this candidacy had been validated by consensus between the four political formations. She added that the next step was for Emmanuel Macron to recognize the results.

Lucie Castets, 37, Director of Finance and Purchasing for the City of Paris, is also a leading figure in the “Nos services publics” collective, known for its opposition to current civil service policy. Described as a “senior civil servant who has worked to crack down on tax fraud and financial crime”, Castets is presented as a strong candidate, backed by the commitment of the coalition parties.

Arnaud Bontemps, co-founder of “Nos services publics”, praised her professional career dedicated to tax justice and the fight against tax evasion. He added that she is “very committed to schools, hospitals and social justice” and that she is “very human, close to people”.
