Snow and Ice: Orange Alert Issued for Four Northern French Departments Starting Wednesday

Météo-France has placed Seine-Maritime, Somme, Pas-de-Calais, and Nord under an orange alert for snow and ice starting this Wednesday, January 8. The alert will begin at 2 PM for Seine-Maritime and at 4 PM for the three departments in Hauts-de-France.

Forecast and Impact

Snow accumulation of 5 to 10 cm is expected during this weather episode. The first snowfall, anticipated by midday, may disrupt traffic. These conditions are caused by a weather system moving across the country, which meets cold air in the north, turning precipitation into snow.

Possible Extension of the Alert

Météo-France has indicated that the alert may be extended to neighboring departments, including Eure, Oise, Aisne, and Ardennes. The snowfall intensity is expected to diminish overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
