Flooding in Seine-et-Marne: red alert once again, major disruption to transport services

Seine-et-Marne has once again been placed on red alert by Météo-France and Vigicrues following a further rise in water levels. The Grand and Petit Morin rivers rose significantly overnight, causing serious overflow. As a direct consequence, several Transilien lines and roads in the Île-de-France region are experiencing disruption this Thursday morning.

Impressive flood scenes

In Coulommiers, a local resident captured striking images of vehicles driving through flooded streets, testifying to the seriousness of the situation. In Pommeuse, the fear of a sudden rise in water levels weighed heavily on residents already accustomed to recurrent bad weather. Although the extent of the flooding was more moderate than expected, several houses were affected for the fourth time this year.

Suspension of school transport and closure of outdoor activities

The departmental authorities have decided to suspend school transport for the day. All outdoor activities have also been cancelled, as a safety precaution, due to the continuing risk of further flooding.

In Paris, rooms at the National Assembly evacuated

The capital was not spared by the exceptional rainfall. Some rooms in an annex of the French National Assembly, in the Chaban-Delmas building, had to be evacuated due to seepage. Several Paris metro stations were also slightly affected.

Transilien network: numerous disruptions in the Île-de-France region

Heavy flooding has had a major impact on rail traffic in the region:

Line E: Traffic is suspended between Nanterre La Folie and Rosa Parks until midday due to flooding at the entrance to Magenta station. The whole line remains disrupted.

Line J: traffic between Paris Saint-Lazare and the Ermont-Eaubonne, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and Pontoise routes is severely slowed in both directions until 9 a.m.

Line P: disruptions between Paris and Coulommiers, as well as between Meaux and La Ferté-Milon, and Meaux and Château-Thierry.

Road network: several routes cut off

Roads were not spared by the bad weather, with several closures recorded in the early morning:

N6 at Créteil-Pompadour.
A3 towards Paris, at Roissy-en-France.
A1 closed towards the provinces from the A3.
N406 between Valenton and Bonneuil-sur-Marne.
N10 towards Paris, at Ablis.

Forecast: a lull expected, but thunderstorms at the end of the day

Precipitation is expected to ease over the course of the day, but further thunderstorms are forecast for late afternoon, raising the risk of further disturbances.

Stay informed and cautious, and don’t hesitate to consult the real-time updates to follow the evolution of the situation.
