Val-de-Marne: a man armed with two sabres is seriously wounded by police in Vitry-sur-Seine

Vitry-sur-Seine: Man Armed with Swords Seriously Injured by Police

A Threatening Individual in the Streets

On Sunday, February 16, at around 5:30 PM, a man armed with two swords caused alarm in the streets of Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne). An off-duty police officer spotted the individual walking with a weapon in each hand and immediately alerted his colleagues, according to information from Actu 17, confirmed by H24 MEDIA.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the man refused to comply and adopted a threatening stance. According to a police source, he advanced toward the officers while brandishing his weapons, despite repeated orders to drop the swords.

Police Response and a Severely Injured Suspect

Faced with the imminent threat, one of the officers discharged his service weapon, firing twice. The individual was seriously injured and was taken into care by emergency responders, with his condition deemed critical. No officers were harmed during the intervention.

Two Ongoing Investigations

The Créteil prosecutor’s office has opened two separate investigations. The first, assigned to the Val-de-Marne judicial police, concerns “attempted voluntary manslaughter on a public authority officer.” The second, led by the IGPN (the police oversight body), aims to assess the officer’s use of force in an investigation for “voluntary violence with a weapon.”

At this stage, investigators are prioritizing the hypothesis that the individual may have been suffering from psychological disorders.
