Météo-France places eleven départements under orange vigilance for risk of heavy rain and flooding

A heavy rainstorm is currently affecting eastern and southeastern France, requiring increased vigilance. According to Météo-France, this phenomenon presents a particular danger due to the heavy rainfall expected over a limited period of time.

The departments concerned by the orange alert are: Lozère, Ardèche, Gard, Isère, Ain, Rhône, Loire, Jura, Saône-et-Loire, Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-Maritimes. In its latest bulletin, published at 6 a.m., Météo-France states that accumulations could reach 60 to 80 mm in 24 hours in certain areas of the Rhône-Alpes region, and locally 50 to 70 mm in just 12 hours in the departments of Bourgogne Franche-Comté.

Faced with this situation, the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes has taken preventive measures to protect the population. All nurseries, schools, colleges and lycées in the département will remain closed all day Tuesday. Precipitation is expected to move progressively eastwards, enabling all affected areas to be lifted from 3 pm onwards.

This meteorological event is a reminder of the importance of exercising maximum caution when traveling, and of keeping abreast of local authorities’ recommendations.
