Storm Floriane: Orange alert maintained for four northeastern departments

Storm Floriane continues to pass through France on Monday, January 6. After initially placing more than twenty departments under an orange alert, Météo-France has reduced this warning to just four departments since 1:00 PM: Aisne, Marne, Ardennes, and Meuse. This alert will remain in effect until 4:00 PM.

End of the orange alert in several regions

The departments of Loire, Rhône, and the eight departments of Île-de-France, previously affected, have now been downgraded to a yellow alert. This adjustment comes as the storm weakens in these areas.

A fast but powerful storm

According to Météo-France, “the Floriane depression is causing a sharp but brief increase in winds during the morning.” Gusts of wind ranging from 90 to 100 km/h are being recorded, with localized peaks up to 110 km/h.

Floriane, which passed through the Paris region in the late morning, is now moving toward northeastern France and is expected to leave the country by early afternoon, heading towards Belgium.

Transport disruptions

In anticipation of the storm’s passage, the SNCF implemented preventive measures, including speed reductions, circulation restrictions, and the cancellation of some services. Normal operations are expected to resume in the afternoon.
