War in Ukraine: Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, Vladimir Putin “the pass of three”…. And the Europeans… “que nenni” dear!

Tensions and Talks: Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. Seek a Way Out of the Conflict

U.S. President Donald Trump hailed a “very good exchange” with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, following a phone call that followed his discussion with Vladimir Putin the day before. The objective? To define the next steps in the negotiations. Zelensky reaffirmed his refusal to make “concessions” to Moscow regarding military aid to Kyiv and stressed the need for security guarantees for Ukraine to prevent the war from reigniting.

Upcoming Talks

As discussions between Russia and the United States are set to continue on Sunday in Saudi Arabia, Moscow and Kyiv continue to accuse each other of attacks, despite the agreement on a limited ceasefire targeting energy infrastructure. The Russian military has accused Ukraine of failing to honor this suspension, alleging strikes on its own facilities.

A Major Prisoner Exchange

Amid ongoing tensions, a significant prisoner exchange took place. 197 Ukrainian soldiers, including 22 seriously wounded, were released in exchange for 175 Russian prisoners. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for mediating the operation.

Fighting Persists on the Ground

Despite diplomatic efforts, the strikes continue. Since the Trump-Putin call, Moscow has launched six missiles and 145 drones on Ukraine, killing one civilian and damaging multiple infrastructures, including hospitals. Meanwhile, Ukraine has reported 64 armed clashes, particularly in the Kharkiv region.

The U.S. Strengthens Support for Ukraine

In response to Kyiv’s concerns, Washington has announced increased assistance in air defense. According to the White House, Trump has agreed to explore options for supplying defense systems in Europe. Additionally, the U.S. president reportedly suggested that the United States take control of Ukrainian power plants, a proposal already sparking controversy.

As diplomatic efforts continue, a true ceasefire remains distant, as deep divisions persist between all parties involved.
